Each week, Macaroni KID Worcester shares five fun activities to enjoy with your kids in Worcester and beyond for the upcoming weekend.

Here are Macaroni KID Worcester's top five picks for things to do with kids in Worcester, Shrewsbury, and Westborough from February 17 - 23. Click the links for all the details!


1. Ed the Wizard - Alchemy Lab! (Westborough)

Come join Ed the Wizard in his Alchemy Lab! You will be able to watch, volunteer, and learn as Ed the Wizard performs magic tricks using everyday household items. With vanishes and transfigurations, Ed the Wizard describes this program as a place "where Harry Potter meets real science." Best for ages 6 and up/ with a caregiver. REGISTRATION REQUIRED. Wednesday Feb 19th from 2-2:45pm. Free. Register in advance.


2. Science Bee for Kids (Shrewsbury)

Kids in grades 3 and 4 are welcome to test their science knowledge in the library’s second annual Science Bee! Thursday, February 20th from 6-7:30pm at Shrewsbury Public Library. Register in advance. Free.


3. Teen Crafternoon - Sew a Polar Animal

Perfect for beginners, this program will focus on sewing your own polar animal to take home with you! Teens can stop by the Frances Perkins Branch on Friday, February 21st from 3:30-4:30pm to get crafty by hand sewing a basic animal pattern (each participant will make a different animal). While supplies last. Friday, February 21st from 3:30-4:30pm at the Frances Perkins WPL branch. Free. Drop in.


4. Museum of Worcester Feb Break Family Friendly Events

Highland Street Foundation sponsored “Winter Camp” day at Museum of Worcester – 10AM-4PM
Lots of fun FREE activities, including “Make your own mini trunk” in the spirit of John Hancock and his historic trunk. Friday, February 21st from 10am-4pm at Museum of Worcester. Drop in. Free.


5. Blackstone Maple Sugaring

It’s that sweet time of year again! Join us for our annual Maple Sugaring Weekend. Guided tours will run for 60 to 90 minutes and will begin at 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. Park staff and volunteers will take visitors through the art and science of producing maple syrup, including identifying maple trees, tapping trees, gathering sap, and watching syrup being made at the sugar house. Children’s activities include a craft and a Junior Ranger activity. Dress for the weather, as tours include both indoor and outdoor elements. Preregistration is recommended, otherwise, it’s first come, first serve. Appropriate for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Reasonable accommodations are available upon advance request. Saturday, February 22nd from 11am-3:30pm at the Blackstone River Valley Heritage Center at Worcester. All families are welcome. Free.
